Thanks for the effort in maintaining this. I thought you should be able to eat pumpkin seeds but wasn't sure. DAVID brand makes really good pumpkin seeds and you can buy them all over the place: Target on the check outs, WalMart, C-Stores, Grocery stores, etc. Yummy as a salty snack and good alternative to nuts for phase 1. Lower in calories, too. THANKS

Hi, Just wanted to tell you that I love your site!! I have it bookmarked for easy reference. I started on the SBD just before Thanksgiving (not the easiest time to start a diet, I know...) to try to drop the extra "baby pounds" still lingering after my son was born last Feb. Not only did I do that, but am now thinner than I was before my 3 yr old was born! I have no trouble sticking to this diet, and it is partially thanks to you... it is so convenient to come to your page and look up the food lists (more updated and extensive than in the book) and recipes, which are great! As a born-and-raised vegetarian, I had been kinda winging it as far as what kind of meat replacements and soy products were allowed in the first two phases. Thanks for supplying a much-appreciated list and guidelines for these items! It's also nice to have a resource of enthusiasm for the diet. It's tough, even in the low-carb craze that we're in now, to order, say, a tostada without the tortilla, without much amusement and incredulousness of others. I'm fortunate to have my sister as my SBD partner- we keep an eye on each other and also provide support for each other in public. Plus, it adds competitive edge to stick to it!

My name is Betsy Jackson. I have been trying forever to lose 15 lbs. Running, lifting weights and Pilates. I have also taken every diet pill known to man. Crazy but desperate. When I looked at the recipes in the SBD book, I thought, YUCK, what lousy combinations. I ate them anyway and I was shocked at how good they were. My husband is now eating some of them also and he is such a food critic with high triglycerides. I am really enjoying this diet. Lost 1 pound in day 3 of phase 1. The best part is that my blood pressure was getting higher and higher. I haven't seen it this normal in years. Thank you soooo much. The website is awesome.

Hello, I have been on the program since the last week of Nov. by my doctors request, my goal the first two weeks was set for 20 lbs. per my doc. I was able to lose the 20 lbs. not easy. he kept me on the first phase for the next two week and was to lose 20 more pounds . didn't make it only 18 lbs. when I started I was at 286 and today I'm at 244. Hello..mizfrogspad is a wonderful site. Very well presented and the information is easy to digest, lol, unlike some other diet material. I was 199 on June 28th 2003. Went on a two weeks phase 1 and lost ten pounds. I then began an exercise program three times a week for 1/2 hour at Curves. The diet in his book is just like SB diet information. I used the Curves menus and now I am 172 pounds and am 5'4" and on a plateau. This day is my 77th birthday feb 5 2004 so I wont go back to phase one for this week but starting monday I start over on phase 1. Will return for recipes. Thanks for the site.

I'm doing this diet and I needed more recipes so thank you. so far I have been doing this since the second week of january and I truly do not feel deprived of anything. I have lost 15 pounds the first two weeks and then stalled for the next three weeks, but then I'm averaging a pound a week and am truly satisfied with that. Once again thanks for the recipes.

Hi, I am just finishing up the last day of phase one I couldn't have done it without this page. When I finally sat down and read the book, I realized that I knew more things about the diet as a whole from reading this page and the links than I got from the book. Hi, I started SBD yesterday. I'm finding it tough not eating dairy, grains and fruit, but so far I haven't strayed from the list for Phase 1. Just a comment: I found the first two weeks very constipating along with friends of mine who were also on the diet. We also found the weight loss not to be so great. Each of us lost only between 4-6 pounds in 5-6 weeks. Very disappointing. We were very true to the diet. Any comments?

NOTE from MizFrog: You misunderstand the South Beach Diet. It is not a low carb diet, so you don't have to cut out the carbs. My name is Bev. I have to say this is a wonderful diet. Now it has taken me a while. But I have now lost close to 80 lbs. I need to lose more. What a helpful website! I have been thinking about starting the SBD, but I really did not want to buy yet another diet book, use it for a couple of weeks, then send it to the pile. This way, I can get a feeling for what the diet is before committing to it. I just bought the SBD here in Paris France -- my sister in the states is doing it now -- so I bought the French version since most of what's indicated does not exist here in fatty France. Low fat cheese? LOL. Low fat ricotta? LOL again . NOTE from MizFrog: Set your browser margins to .25 right and left. That might help. Or you can copy and paste the recipes you like into a word processing document for printing. That way, you can format as desired and keep the recipes from carrying over to another page.

Hi, I've been on the South Beach Diet just over a month & lost 28 LBS! This is great & I want to loose another 20 more. The foods are very delicious. I've learned how to eat right & stay away from the sweet fatty junk foods. It was hard at first to break the habit & now, I don't think of it. The processed foods out there now is for "TASTE only" There is no value in them except to make you fat. Thank you SBD for guiding me in the right direction. B Dufresne.

I have another dessert Phase 1 for you: South Beach Peanut Butter Cup. But basically it consists of 1 no sugar added fudgicle, 2 tablespoons natural peanut butter, and 2 tablespoons Cool Whip Lite or Free. Let the fudgicle get a bit melty and then scrape if off the stick into a bowl. Add the peanut butter and cool whip and stir together. This is so good and will really satisfy a craving if you're having one. It made me feel "normal" to be eating something so yummy and I think it helped me to stay On Plan.

NOTE from MizFrog: This sounds really good, but Cool Whip (and other brands) toppings contain trans fats and Dr. Agatston says that we should avoid trans fats as they are not healthy.

Hi: I have stalled out at a 12 lb loss (since mid March). I am being very vigilent but I feel I am eating too much (of the right food). I don't necessarily want to lose fast, just steadily. Any ideas? I walk about a mile every day (commute) and go to the gym at least twice a week.

My wife and I just started the SBD a few days ago and being an avid surfer I had to see what I could find that would help us succeed. I came upon your site while searching for help regarding the phase 1 foods and am I glad that I did.
